2020 Spring Semester Class Schedule

Chinese Class Level 1:
For students with no or little background in Chinese. Students will learn pinyin (the phonetic alphabetic system) and simplified Chinese characters, and focus on basic language skills such as listening, speaking, and reading and writing.

Chinese Class Level 2:
This is 2-hour class for students who have completed the "Chinese Class Level 1" or who have already learned Chinese for more than one year. Students will focus on the class text book, which includes stories, simplified Chinese characters, pinyin, new words, and sentence patterns. Upon completion of the accompanied workbook each week, students will improve their listening, speaking, and reading and writing skills.

Chinese Class Level 3:
This is 2-hour class for students who have completed the "Chinese Class Level 2" or who have already learned Chinese for more than one year. Students will focus on the class text book, which includes stories, simplified Chinese characters, pinyin, new words, and sentence patterns. Upon completion of the accompanied workbook each week, students will improve their listening, speaking, and reading and writing skills.

Chinese Class Level 4:
This is a two-hour class for students who have completed at least Level 2 class, or have equivalent knowledge. The textbook covers new vocabulary and simple sentence structures with particular emphasis on listening, reading and speaking skills. Students will develop conversational skills through dialogues, questions and answers, and speaking practice. In order to reinforce and consolidate knowledge, students will be expected to write simple characters, sentences and short paragraphs.

Chinese Class Level 5/6:
This is a 2-hour class for students who have finished Level 4. The textbook we are using has five units (three lessons in each unit), which offers language knowledge and practice centering on common topics in everyday life such as "appearance, occupations, personality," "daily routine, household chores, pets," "schools, examinations, school events," "delicious food, festivals, eating out," "neighborhood, traveling, accidents," etc. With all practical conversations and short articles, it enables the students' communication in fluent and accurate Chinese.

Chinese Class Level 7/8:
This is a 2-hour class for students who have finished Level 6.
